UK’s first carbon-negative, zero-waste, energy self-sufficient homes
At The Arbour in London, GS8 has delivered the UK’s first carbon-negative, zero-waste, energy self-sufficient homes – a pioneering project built on the principles of the circular economy. Materials salvaged from eight deconstructed buildings were reimagined as new foundations, over 35,000 earth bricks, lighting, furniture, and even roof structures, while the design ensures each home is operationally carbon negative, with little to no energy bills. Communal gardens with vegetable patches and an outdoor kitchen nurture self-sufficiency and connection, while interiors by Rockett St George embrace the scheme’s zero-waste ethos. In the bathrooms, our Alba panels, made from repurposed yoghurt pots, provide a striking yet subtle finish, their flecks of silver foil adding character alongside bold black taps and geometric gloss sinks.
