Made using Smile’s Charcoal material, Achttien plays with first impressions. At a glance, the piece appears as a study of lines, surfaces, and volumes – three distinct objects with a terrazzo-like finish that clearly read as archetypes of chest, stool, and shelf. Look closer, and the surface reveals its story: plastic packaging, giving each panel a unique identity. The touch is softer and warmer than expected, and the interplay of size, shape, and proportion comes into focus. Each piece is cut from a single recycled sheet, with no material wasted, ensuring every panel is fully put to use. Crafted entirely from diverse waste streams, Achttien transforms the overlooked into a refined and functional design language.
