Orca

Made from: Chopping boards and plastic packaging

Introducing Orca, a reimagined version of our highly popular Black Dapple material.

Whilst it shares the elegant, marble-like quality of the Dapple, we think Orca has a unique character and a striking style of its own.

Using a classic monochrome palette, the intensely dark base colour contrasts with patches of white, bringing depth and drama to the material. The result is a visually playful and bold aesthetic, very much inspired by one of our favourite sea creatures. Perhaps monochrome isn’t so black and white after all?

We work hard to ensure our panels are as free from blemishes as possible, but by their nature, no two panels are the same. For us, every quirk, imperfection and mottle tells a different recycling story. Orca is supplied double-sided, with a planed finish as standard.

We produce our Core materials in batches of 5-10 tonnes.

The ratio of colours and/or the exact colour may vary slightly between batches.

Pattern example images are for illustrative purposes only. We recommend purchasing a sample to experience the colour, pattern, and texture of the material.

Our panels are not available for direct purchase online. Pricing depends on material type, thickness, and quantity. Most stock items are dispatched within 5 working days of payment. Standard cutting, CNC and simple finishes are typically dispatched within 3 weeks, while more complex CNC work, fabrication, assembly and custom materials may take longer. If you have an urgent requirement, please contact us in advance — we’ll always do our best to help. We work across six pricing categories, so by speaking with us directly we can ensure you receive tailored guidance on the most suitable material for your project, along with accurate pricing and lead times. Smile Plastics Fabrication Guidelines

From sourcing and sorting raw materials to forming panels and finishes, every step is carefully considered, and often done by hand. We work with a range of waste streams, with a particular focus on plastics due to their environmental impact.

Our factory setup is intentionally low-impact, using a fraction of the energy required by conventional plastics machinery, and we prioritise local suppliers wherever we can. We produce a core range of large-format panels and collaborate closely with clients on custom aesthetics or performance needs. Behind the scenes, we’re always experimenting; pushing boundaries with new materials and methods to expand what’s possible in circular design.
